The Météo services have placed the department of Haute-Corse on orange alert for “storms and rain-flooding” since yesterday, Tuesday September 17 at 9 p.m. The alert should end this Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The department of Corse-du-Sud has also been placed on yellow alert for “storms and rain-flooding” until midnight on Wednesday at the earliest.

The weather report

According to the meteorological agency, “since yesterday Tuesday at the end of the day, stormy and locally heavy rains have affected Haute-Corse. They remain in the news today Wednesday and until at least the evening, however interspersed with periods of more or less lasting calm. At 6 a.m. legal time this Wednesday and since the start of this marked rain-storm episode (around 12 hours), we have observed cumulative rainfall of generally around 30 to 60 mm in the most affected areas, and up to 100 to 130 mm more punctually (120 mm recorded in Oletta), around Castagniccia and the eastern plain between Cervione and Aléria.”

In a publication on the X network, the Chemin de Fer de la Corse (CFC) specifies that delays are to be expected. “Traffic is disrupted in the suburbs”specifies the CFC.

The utmost caution is recommended when traveling and practicing outdoor activities.

– Do not enter a submerged route under any circumstances.

– Stay at home, as much as possible

– Do not take shelter under a tree

– Store sensitive and potentially damaged items

– Report fires caused by lightning strikes immediately
