A rear wheel, two front wheels, and a box. Tricycles will be in the spotlight this Sunday September 22 on the occasion of the Triporteur Race! A mythical event which animated the Parisian streets at the beginning of the last centuryand which rises from its ashes more than 80 years later to offer us an unusual spectacle.
From 1943 to the present day
Launched in 1900 by the newspaper The Auto-Bike (ancestor of The Team), the Triporteur Race was a very popular event among Parisians. However, the The last race was in 1943.. It has been a long time since our three-wheelers were put to rest, being used a lot at the time for deliveries of printing shops, pastries or even newspapers. Some of these delivery men have also I have their little moment of glory, including Marcel Cognasson, seven times champion of the race. And here we are in 2024 to give a a new lease of life for this Parisian event of the most legendary!
Revival of the Tricycle Race
After a beautiful exhibition tracing the history from this event at the Town Hall of the 20th, at the Maurice-Gardette square in the 11th and at the Louis-Lumière stadium, Paris is reviving the Race of Triporteurs in the heart of the city. The meeting is scheduled for September 22 at 12:30 p.m. in the 20th, for a race that brings together drivers of non-motorized tricycles. Together, they will set off on a 11 kilometer route passing through the boulevard de Charonne, the rue de Lagny, the rue Mounet-Sully and the rue de la Plaine. The challenge? To achieve the journey in less than 20 minutes to beat the record set in 1943.
After the race, it’s time for the Cyclo-parade led by the winners of the competitionwhere all types of cycles are welcome to parade through the streets of Paris. Bikes from all eras, people of all ages and all styles will come together to end this day in style.
