Eliminated by FC Barcelona in the round of 16 during the 2009/2010 season, VfB Stuttgart rediscovers the most prestigious European competition this Tuesday evening. For its first match, Stuttgart will face Real Madrid, the Spanish giant (15 times European champion).
Stuttgart coach Sebastien Hoeneß expects a difficult encounter at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium: “Playing with the hope of a victory is perhaps a bit excessive, but we will certainly play with courage, with bravery in order to prove what we are capable of,” he said.
Real wants to remain cautious
Real Madrid are indeed favourites in this duel against Stuttgart. But the Merengue club is nevertheless preparing to face an attractive Stuttgart team, capable of causing them problems:
“They are a young, courageous team that likes to keep the ball. We will have to be patient. They are used to playing low and slow, but they play faster in attack, so we must not fall into their trap.” explained right-back Dani Carvajal.
In addition to Dani Carvajal returning from injury, Real Madrid have also reported the return of Jude Bellingham for tonight’s game against VfB Stuttgart.
