the essential
The mayor of Eauze and departmental councillor has been appointed as a relay for Nouvelle Energie for the Gers department. The right-wing movement of Republican David Lisnard should serve as a stepping stone for him for the presidential elections.

Michel Gabas has made no secret of his membership in David Lisnard’s party, Nouvelle Energie, created in 2023. The mayor of Eauze has now become its representative in the Gers. It is up to him to organize the movement, develop it and ensure its communication.

“When I see the landscape of the right, with the same hackneyed personalities, always the same techniques, I find that it often lacks sincerity, judges Michel Gabas. On the contrary, David Lisnard seems sincere to me, someone honest.”

“I want to believe it”

A member from the very beginning, Michel Gabas met David Lisnard during Covid, when it was necessary to deal with the crisis. “We were very inspired by what he did in , where he is mayor. In my eyes, he embodies a right that is rather liberal for the economy, but authoritarian for sovereign issues while being concerned about culture and social issues.”

A profile like Philippe Séguin or even Pompidou that appeals to the local elected official, who assures that David Lisnard, “through these actions, as president of the Association of Mayors of (AMF), his desire to defend the municipalities against standards, his clear positions, pleases both the left and the right. I want to believe it: I have been so disappointed by so many politicians…”.

Structure

To meet his presidential ambitions, David Lisnard has been structuring Nouvelle Energie for 2 years. “Things have expanded over the last year, which is also reflected in working committees,” explains the mayor of Eauze, a pharmacist by profession, who works in the Health department.

David Lisnard had supported Michel Gabas’ New Energy candidacy in the legislative elections: while he was chairing the AMF congress in Mirande, the Cannes elected official had made a detour to Eauze for a campaign video.

“There will be banana skins”

Michel Gabas is not dreaming: “There will be banana skins, but he is far from the internal quarrels of the right. He is preparing for the next presidential elections in 3 years.” And David Lisnard is not the type to be tempted “by adventures à la Ciotti”. “We can talk about selective immigration, immigration control without falling into total radicalism! This is the case in many countries. I believe that Lisnard is capable of addressing these issues with objectivity and serenity.”

It is up to Michel Gabas, still an opposition departmental councillor but who has left the Gers Autrement fold, to bring this party to life within the department. His candidate is travelling the country to take the pulse of the French. “David Lisnard will probably not be a minister, and making him visible will not be easy. But in a department where the RN vote is well established, his knowledge of the problems of peripheral France can make a difference. Cannes is a city where the poverty rate is higher than the national average!”

A meeting of Nouvelle Energie executives will take place in at the beginning of October to set the agenda of the future candidate and its communication.
