This Friday, September 6, Christian Estrosi made a speech on the occasion of his political return. The mayor of Nice announced his plans for this new year, including a new measure to withdraw benefits from drug traffickers.

This Friday, September 6th marked the political return of Christian Estrosi. The mayor of Nice gave a speech and gave an overview of the subjects that are dear to him for the coming months, particularly in the fight against drug trafficking: “My France is the one that wages war on drug trafficking and narcoterrorism” and that “shows firmness”, he hammered home.

To this end, Christian Estrosi announced his intention to deprive people convicted of drug trafficking of any social assistance in the city. “I proposed to the Prosecutor that we draw up an agreement between the CAF, the community and the State services so that any dealer, any lookout, any convicted trafficker no longer receives benefits,” announced the Mayor of Nice.

“No national solidarity for the enemies of the Republic,” he added, assuring that “laxity, weakness, indulgence, it’s over.”

Measures already launched against delinquency

This announcement, within the framework of the Local Crime Treatment Group, is not new. Such a partnership was set up between the Grenoble prosecutor’s office and the CAF in 2020. Eric Vaillant, Grenoble’s public prosecutor, told Le Parisien last August that “55 traffickers” had since seen their allowances reduced or eliminated.

Christian Estrosi has repeatedly expressed his desire to fight drug trafficking, also mentioning the installation of cameras in the Moulins district, which is plagued by drug trafficking.

He also announced on May 1st the implementation of a decree imposing a curfew on minors under 13 years old to combat delinquency. A measure that concerns those under 16 years old in the Moulins district.

During a rally organized on July 18 in tribute to the victims of the Nice fire in the same district, he had announced his intention to organize “a large rally against drug trafficking.”

Faced with this violence, he called the following month, in an interview with Nice-Matin, for a “prefect dedicated to the fight against drug trafficking” to replace the one currently in office.
