the essential
Amateur stand-up artist, Emeline Auzuech, aka Mimi, performs at the OKFE brasserie, in Millau, Saturday January 25.
How did you get started in comedy?
Six months ago, I attended a stand-up night as a spectator. The organizing association, the “KO du laughter”, offered workshops every Monday for people who would like to get started. I said to myself why not and since then I have been training every week.
In six months, I have already performed on around twenty stages. I have seen real progress and I am delighted with it.
Why did you want to perform in Millau?
I grew up there, it was close to my heart to play here. Stand-up evenings are quite rare in the area so this is an opportunity to see if the Millavois are receptive. In addition, the texts of my sketches are perfect for Millau, the people of Aveyron will recognize themselves! When I play in Toulon, I talk a lot about my region, I try to sell them Aveyron with my jokes.
For example, I cite “THE” Aveyron reference: Didier from “L’amour est dans le pré”. You know, the farmer has such a pronounced accent that M6 had to subtitle him. The one who has one eye in La Rochelle and the other in Saint-Tropez. I also make a little reference to Zaz, our local star, and I even allow myself a little rap at the end. You shouldn’t miss this!
How do you write your texts?
With a piece of paper and a pen! More seriously, I write a lot about my life, my experiences and about Aveyron. I don’t invent anything and I test my jokes on my mother. I have been working on my text for six months now and reworking it after each performance to perfect it. Going on stage means learning from each performance. The truth is, everyone can be funny.
-The entire technique of stand-up comes from interpretation, rhythm, silences, facial expressions and successfully capturing the audience’s attention. Everything can change from one room to another. Sometimes, in front of twenty people, I can have more fun than in front of several hundred.
How do you envisage your visit to Millau?
I’m not stressed but impatient and excited to see my family’s reaction to my sketches. They will all be in the room and I have a feeling I will have a lot of fun.
I warned them, they’re going to be hit hard! I admit that playing in Millau adds extra pressure. I really want the spectators to have a good evening.
Who will accompany you during this show?
I come with four other actors (Laurent Garbarino, Sandra Miso, The Man with the Guitar and Laurent Boghossian, Editor’s note) some of whom are professionals.
Everyone has their own style, we will have very family humor with jokes that make spectators of all ages laugh, a Marseillaise with a strong accent and also a musician actor who focuses everything on his improvisation and his interactions with the public. The evening will be very diverse and full of surprises.
