the essential
The closing ceremony of the international political film festival brought this 7th edition to a close. For five days, Carcassonnais were able to discover 44 productions, exchange with filmmakers or actors like Costa Gavras and live to the rhythm of cinema.
A good ceremony is also a ceremony that experiences its ups and downs during the evening. That of the international political film festival experienced a few, initially due to a slight delay.
But whatever. Etienne Garcia, president of the event, was full of emotion during his speech. “The festival evolves, grows. The most important thing is the human being who allows us to grow”he stressed. And to add: “When we started there were few of us. Our families filled the rooms. But today there were more than 22,000 of you during these five days of the festival. Today, a young Audois can say to himself, I have that at Me.”
Lots of awards
Quickly, the different juries came together. It was first Henzo Lefèvre, director of the festival and Étienne Garcia who gave the first names. Not all the directors were able to go to the Aude capital, some thanking them from a distance like the director of Black Box Diaries, directed by Shiori Itō. “Thank you to all the volunteers, the president and the director. I would have loved to be with you”he clarified before hanging up his videoconference.
-Also for the first time, a short film jury was created. Rand Beiruty’s film Shadows won the award. Note that two films were doubly winners: Pampa by Antoine Chevrollier and In the Land of My Brother directed by Alireza Ghasemi and Raha Amirfazli. This feature film also received the Grand Prize. “I dedicate this award to all the people who helped me achieve it”thanked the directors present in the room.
Thus ends this 7th edition of the international political film festival. “Perhaps one day Cannes will shake”concluded the member of the professional jury, Christophe Rossignon.
