“Five years, five days, five euros. » Here is the slogan imagined by the Saint-Malo cinema team to properly celebrate the fifth anniversary of CinéVauban in Paramé.

For five days, from Wednesday January 29 to Sunday February 2, 2025, cinema tickets will be sold at the reduced rate of €5, only at CinéVauban.

10 years for the cinema of La Grande Passerelle

This cinema complex of 8 screens and 1,500 seats opened its doors to the public on January 29, 2020 on the Saint-Malo university campus (45 rue de la Désilles), opposite the IUT and the E. Leclerc hypermarket .

The opportunity to recall that in the station district, it has been ten years since the arthouse cinema Vauban la Grande Passerelle opened its doors, with three rooms and 500 seats.

A “cultural and social” place

“The creation of SAS CinéVauban in Saint-Malo is the culmination of more than 10 years of reflection on the establishment of a completely privately financed multiplex in the Saint-Malo region,” recalls Loïc Frémont, the director of both cinemas.

Before Paramé, we remember that the multiplex had first been envisaged at La Découverte, next to Intermarché, before this project ended up falling through.

“This investment of more than 11 million euros was made possible thanks to the partnership between the historic association AEF (manager of the two cinemas) and the Soredic group, 4e French group of cinema operators. Over the past five years, we have found our cultural and social place on campus. »

More than a million spectators in five years

In the space of five years, CinéVauban recorded 852,354 paid admissions and scheduled 41,540 screenings.

On the station side, the Grande Passerelle cinema recorded 205,747 paid admissions and 14,098 screenings over the same period. The addition of the number of admissions to the two cinemas therefore shows an attendance of more than one million spectators (1,058,101) over the last five years.

“It’s really very satisfying to see that cinema is still attracting so much, even though our theaters were closed for around ten months during the health crisis,” smiles Loïc Frémont.

The most significant moment of the last five years took place on February 18, 2023, when we filled the eight theaters simultaneously with 1,500 spectators for the preview of the film The Three Musketeers d’Artagnan, in the presence of the actors of the movie.

And in 2024?

The year 2024 was that of growth in terms of attendance in the two Saint-Malo cinemas: 250,240 paid admissions (+3.19%) for 10,075 screenings scheduled at CinéVauban; 58,593 paid admissions (+12.26%) for 3,632 screenings at Vauban la Grande Passerelle.

Overall, the two cinemas were attended by 308,833 spectators last year. “If we maintain this same pace, we will exceed more than 1.5 million spectators over five years. »

“Affordable” prices

If the maximum cost of entry to the cinema is €9.80 at CinéVauban or €9 at the Grande Passerelle, there is an attractive general public offer with “a 10-seat card for €65, valid for one year. This comes to €6.50 per cinema ticket,” informs Cécile Rault. Good to know, cinema tickets are €5.50 on Sunday mornings (€5 at the Grande Passerelle) or €6.80 every Tuesday.

Students benefit from a reduced rate all year round at €6.80, those under 14 see this price drop to €5.20 (€5 at the Grande Passerelle). “This attractive pricing is part of a popular desire to make cinema accessible to as many people as possible. »
