It's now been a little over a month since the famous western series Yellowstone bid farewell to its fans around the world with its season 5, after endless speculation about its future. Despite its discontinuation, it is part of the proof that the Western genre is experiencing one of the best periods in its history, at least in the form of series.
The one created by Taylor Sheridan and starring Kevin Costner spawned two prequel spin-offs, 1883 and 1923. The creator also already has a new series on SkyShowtime, Landman, although its reception hasn't been as enthusiastic as the previous ones.

At the same time, Netflix has just launched its new bet on the western, American Primevalwhich quickly rose to the top of the ranking of the most popular series on the streaming platform. Recent years have given us other great titles that have captivated fans and non-fans alike, like the miniseries Hatfields & McCoys – also with Kevin Costner – or Longmirewhich is definitely a must-see if you loved Yellowstone.

Created, written and directed by Scott Frank – former creator of Impeccable The Queen's Gamewhich unfortunately will not have a sequel – with the invaluable presence in the equation of Steven Soderbergh as executive producer, the series stars Jack O'Connell, Jeff Daniels and Michelle Dockery and takes us to a small town in New Mexico in 1884 to introduce us to Frank Griffin (Daniels), a dangerous outlaw who has gained a considerable reputation for robbing and murdering people in the American West and who has just arrived in this mysterious town.

Frank has only one idea in mind: to settle the score with his former partner Roy Goode (O'Connell), who ended up turning against him. Along the way, he finds refuge with Alice Fletcher (Dockery), a rancher in La Belle, whose population is almost exclusively female. With a few exceptions, all of the men were killed in a devastating mining accident, so the remaining female residents manage the town's affairs alone.

Although the 2017 series has its detractors, with a score of 83% on Rotten Tomatoes, it is one of the most beloved westerns of the last century and is worth watching.
Godless won three Emmy Awards, including one for Jeff Daniels as Outstanding Actor in a Miniseries or Limited Drama, among many other awards and nominations.
