There are only five at the start of the Prix Joseph de Gontaut-Biron but the field is very good. In fact, at the end of the opposite line, there are three of them on the same curtain, Vader du Berlais along the rope, Some of Them in the center and Lovely Guy on their exterior. At this point, the race goes faster and faster. At the end of the last turn, the first named gives up and leaves the other two to fight, but the final outcome is no longer in doubt. Arnaud Chaillé-Chaillé’s protégé is not of the same caliber as the others and as soon as the last hurdle is crossed, he accelerates again and leaves his rival behind. Johnny Charron, partner of the latter (under the guise now of Gilbert Lenzi) admits “Mine performed very well. With the Australian blinders on, he was much better at his job and showed concentration.” For Gaëtan Masure, jockey of the winner under the helmet of Pascal Millot, a smile is essential: “Already when he started he was impressive. There, there wasn’t enough rhythm in the stands and that’s why he made a mistake on me. When the race really got bigger, he became more and more comfortable and ended up breaking away very easily. I have not often ridden a four-year-old of this quality and it still has room for improvement.” The road to the Prix Camille Duboscq (L.) to be run on February 9 is now wide open for this son of Beaumec de Houelle which is nothing out of the ordinary. Third, Car pen also completes a course of choice and makes Wilfried Lajon say “He has very little experience and has a very good end to the race moving forward. It is still very tender and perfect as hell, which promises for the future.”
