In Quimperlé, the title of French Tennis Club champion celebrated at home

The silver cup that the biggest clubs in have competed for since 1914 took pride of place, Friday January 17, 2025 in the evening, in the wedding hall of the town hall of Quimperlé where a small ceremony allowed friends and supporters of the Tennis club de Quimperlé (TCQ) to celebrate the second French championship title, won on November 30 in (Upper ).

“From now on, the people of Quimperlois are considered at their fair value”

President Basile Spanos was proud to present the cup. “Bringing it to the town hall is the best way to thank the city which supported the new club project with us. It was an extraordinary year and, what’s more, it was the 60th anniversary of the TCQ.” If, in 2012, on the occasion of the first title, the old hangars of Kerbertrand were not worthy of the value of the best tennis club in Brittany, today the sports complex perfectly reflects the dimension taken over the years by the TCQ. “At the beginning, the big clubs looked down on us and not really seriously but now the Quimperlois are considered at their true value,” testifies Basile Spanos, who warmly thanked the volunteers who allowed the TCQ to become number 1 in France.

“Adventure training that continues”

Pascal Piriou, president of the League of Brittany, also praised a reference club flying high the colors of the “smallest regional league” of the French tennis federation and which knows how to “instill a formidable spirit of cohesion team in an individual sport.

For the mayor, Mickaël Quernez, this title of champion of France concluded a dream sporting year also marked by the Olympic title of Nicolas Gestin. “Association and sporting life remains a great strength of Quimperlé, we can be proud of what our 40 clubs accomplish with their 5,200 members. The victory of our tennis players against the favorites from was such a strong moment, it’s a wonderful adventure that continues.”
