For its first sound creation residency, the Rien à voir! in partnership with the GMEA – National Center for Musical Creation of Albi – Tarn, accepted the proposal from radio producer Cabiria Chomel, based between Brussels and Marseille.
With a Master’s degree in research in History and Political Science, she then trained in sound creation at the Sound and Radio Creation Workshop (ACSR) in Brussels. She is part of the collective “The Sound and the Fury”.
In her practice she is interested in group stories, more or less tangible communities, which sometimes only exist through these choral stories; to the ability of sound to bring into existence what is barely perceptible; to that which, through side roads, accounts for a multiplicity of worlds.
She will be hosted for a 4-week residency in Monestiés in March 2025 to create her piece “Les notes du Cérou”, available to listen to while sailing on the river during the “Rien à voir!” festival. » in Monestiés on July 5 and 6.
-“Les notes du Cérou is a sound piece combining field recording, musical composition and documentary speech. In this project I wish to explore two aspects linked to the proposed theme: that of experimenting with a dialogue with a natural element – a river – and that of the cohabitation of people from the surrounding area with it.”
Inspired by the reading of “The Living Montage” by Nan Sherpherd, Scottish author and poet, she will give us to hear the different notes that each person’s ear can perceive from the vitality of the watercourse. “It’s about listening, practicing hearing the musicality of the river and finding a way to reproduce it. »
A meeting with Cabiria Chomel will be organized at the start of the residency at the Moulin de Monestiés. The opportunity to discover her work, her residency project in more detail and how she wishes to proceed to create her piece “Les notes du Cérou”.
