Besieged by flames since last Tuesday, Los Angeles is counting its dead: the toll rose to 24 people who died this Sunday, January 12, 2025, according to local authorities.

Among the victims, we can find two former film stars: Rory Callum Sykes and Dalyce Curry, both found deceased in their homes.

Rory Callum Sykes, dead at 32

“It is with great sadness that I must announce the death of my beautiful son”, declared on X (ex-Twitter) Shelley Sykes, the mother of Rory Callum, this Sunday January 12.

British actor, known for his role in the Australian series Kiddy Kapersbroadcast at the end of the 1990s, died in the fire which ravaged his home on January 8. He was 32 years old.

“I tried to put out the ashes on his roof with a garden hose, but I couldn’t because the water had been shut off by the utilities,” his mother wrote, sharing several photos of their family home in Malibu.

Dalyce Curry, seen in The Blues Brothers

Another victim of the Los Angeles fires: Dalyce Curry, 95-year-old former actress.

While being searched for, the retired actress was found dead in her home located in Altadena. “She had such an impact on my life. This loss is devastating,” his granddaughter wrote on Facebook on January 12.

The actress was best known for her role in the classic The Blues Brothersreleased in 1980.

More than 12,000 homes, buildings and vehicles were destroyed or damaged by the fires. Among them, several celebrity villas were reduced to ashes, notably that of Lætitia Hallyday, widow of singer Johnny Hallyday, and that of singer Patrick Bruel.
