With Loury, no right to jet lag. For the long-awaited new season of “The Island: L’île du bagne”, this Tuesday evening at 9:10 p.m., M6 has entrusted the keys to its adventure game to Loury Lag. The 38-year-old explorer, survival expert, is not his first experience on television. 20 Minutes presents to you the one who will coach, but also shake up the ten adventurers of this season 5.
Difficult childhood and prison
“My life journey is quite bumpy,” he declares straight away in his portrait which will be broadcast in episode 1, this Tuesday at 9:10 p.m., on M6. I was very bad at school. » Having left college at the age of 14, Loury Lag began training in masonry with the Compagnons du Devoir. “I grew up in a chaotic climate, between the psychological violence of my mother and the physical abuse of my father,” he confides to West France.
In his presentation proposed by M6, the adventurer admits to having “fell a little into delinquency and, at one point in my life, I found myself locked up. » Indeed, the young man from Pessac (Gironde) spent time in prison. “In the street, everything was allowed to survive,” he summarizes, without wanting to mention the reasons for his incarceration.
Thirst for freedom and records
After this painful experience, Loury Lag decides to open up to the world, in perpetual search for freedom. He became known for his extreme solo expeditions such as crossing the northwest Arctic in seventy-seven days and Vatnajökull, the second largest glacier in Europe, in just twelve days. He has traveled to no less than forty-five countries across the globe. The man who is now 38 years old and father of two children has notably written two books and produced his documentary, called Resilience.
On television, Loury Lag stood out in the first season of “Return to primary instinct” on RMC Découverte, a show that he won in 2018. Before embarking on the adventure “The Island”.

“Presenter, it’s a real job”
“I had lots of different TV offers, but what I liked about “The Island” was that it was a very purist format, which made me want to discover the adventure of being a presenter, because it’s a real job,” admitted, at a press conference, the successor to the legendary Mike Horn at the presentation of the show. And the thirty-year-old took his new role as host very seriously.
“I really tried to explain as best as possible to the castaways how to survive in an environment like that,” says Loury Lag. It wasn’t easy, being a teacher is really not what I’m best at. […]. I may have been a little harsh, but survival is not easy and it requires very specific preparation that should not be taken lightly. »
“Discover my world”
Throughout the program, Loury Lag does not hesitate to reframe the castaways, but also, and above all, to advise them and guide them in the hostile environment of a virgin island, located in the south of Thailand. “I explain the candidates’ mistakes without judging them and I show what should have been done in these situations,” he adds.
