« We want to show the public that it is not only blockbusters or action movies », explains Alix Ferraris, organizer of the Var Documentary Film Festival which takes place throughout the department of 7 January to 28 FEBRUARY 2025.
From Toulon to Draguignan via Carqueiranne, screenings, previews in the presence of directors or even masterclass are organized. These events, accessible by reservation, are intended to create links throughout the department.
Marcel Pagnol in the spotlight for this new edition
« Marcel Pagnol, who will be in the spotlight, is the first actor in decentralization in cinema. He filmed on his territory, which was rare in his time. That’s more or less what we want to give. We want to decentralize from Toulon to be close to spectators », Compares the man who is also the artistic director and president of the Quattrocento association, organizer of the event for the second year.
Nicolas Pagnol, grandson of the famous director, is the godfather of this edition. A meeting is planned for January 7 in Carqueiranne.
An “artistically eclectic” festival
Diversity is the watchword of the cinematographic event: diversity of audiences, locations, themes. To attract multi-generational spectators, the festival has joined forces with the University of Toulon and more particularly with students of the visual production degree. A special student price for 1 € is put in place so that the financial cost is not a barrier to their participation.
For Alix Ferraris, this festival was designed to combine culture and atmosphere, with drinks of friendship at the end of certain sessions, in order to “ start the year in style ».
