Cinéphiles in Libourne welcome a masterclass of the Acid pop festival

“It’s a first!” » Jean-Paul Joly, president of Cinenlib, does not hide his impatience. More than twenty years, he recalls, that Cinéphiles in have established links with Acid, the Independent Cinema Association for its distribution. A proximity which allowed the association to bring filmmakers to meet the Libourne public, as part of its famous “Reels” at the Grand Écran cinema.

Cinenlib, however, had never taken the plunge at Acid Pop, a popular university of cinema, which is now running its sixth season. It is now done. The module entitled “Alchemist filmmakers” will be presented Tuesday January 14. The masterclass will be followed by the screening of “Mi Bestia”, a Franco-Colombian film by Camilá Beltrán.

Conversation on creation

“Acid is an association of filmmakers. It is notably present at the festival, with a selection of independent films looking for distributors, continues Jean-Paul Joly. There is no prize awarded but work carried out with the professionals who come to attend the performances. » A pool of films defended by their directors themselves.

Acid pop allows you to push the cursor further. The principle? The animation provides a masterclass of around 50 minutes, around a question of cinema, here hosted by the director Camilá Beltrán and the co-president of Acid, the filmmaker Pascale Hannoyer, “in conversation on the themes of the film and its creative process”.

The chosen theme, subtitled “What material to reveal the invisible? », allows us to explore the work of filmmakers in more depth. “How to give access to the underground and dreamlike world of the protagonists? Can we make perceptible what is supernatural and escapes our senses like the feminist trance of a young heroine? », asks the press kit. With as raw material extracts from “Maria” by Máximo Calvo Olmedo and Alfredo del Diestro (1922), “Carrie” by Brian De Palma (1976), “La Vendadora de rosas”, by Víctor Gaviria (1998), “The Tempestaire » by Jean Epstein (1947) and “Pacifico Oscuro” by Camila Beltrán (2020).

With high school students too

A first session will take place in the morning for students in the “cinema option” class at Max-Linder high school. “31 students in the second grade class,” specifies their teacher Elisabeth Rhodas, delighted with the partnership. Motivated students who have already worked at the History Film Festival or at Fifib, the International Independent Film Festival. “This allows students to interact directly with the filmmakers. » The second session will take place from 8 p.m. “And it’s of course open to everyone,” smiles Jean-Paul Joly.
