Lhe two sessions of the traditional New Year’s concert took place this Sunday, January 5. In a room at the Zénith de Pau, full as every year, the young musicians of El Camino then those of the OPPB performed some of the great themes of the music of John Williams. An event registered every year on François Bayrou’s calendar and for which the Pau councilor, now Prime Minister, will have made the trip, under good escort.
Not a little proud of the El Camino project, the latter paid tribute to the work carried out as well as to the career of the charismatic conductor Fayçal Karoui: “He conducted this year at La Scala in Milan, in Covent Garden and in Japan. He is an international conductor rooted in Pau. It is emblematic of what we want, of our vision of the world. Roots and at the same time an open look at what is happening on the planet.”
An intervention on which the person concerned responded by welcoming the participation of the 220 young people gathered on the stage for this 2025 concert. “A big thank you also to the twenty teachers who accompanies these students and who are on stage today as well as to the management team. Teams that will allow us to celebrate our 10th anniversary next year.”
Oscar Parody
During the change of stage between El Camino and the Orchester de Pau Pays de Béarn (OPPB), the director of the structure Frédéric Morando also made an intervention: “This El Camino adventure is a project from the heart and solidarity which resides in the conviction that a child who is happy to learn is a child who does better, at school, in his family, in the country in which he lives. It is this radiance of joy that makes them our most precious human ambassadors.”
Once installed, the OPPB musicians performed the greatest themes of the American composer. From “Jurassic Park” to “Star Wars” via “ET”, or even “Jaws”, the public was able to immerse themselves with relish in its magical music very often associated with memories of youth and happiness projections on the big screen. Between each piece, it was Jean Manifacier, who provided the transitions by staging a parody of the Oscars ceremony. Humorous interludes during which Indiana Jones’ hat crossed paths with Princess Leia, Superman, Darth Vader and even Master Yoda.
