Friday December 13, two second-hand shops opened together, Exmes (Gouffern en Auge), dans l’Orne, The Flea Market of the Counts of Exmes et A Crab in the Jar.
Nadine Kolten and Bruno Veyret are two competitors who consider themselves rather complementary and who played the game perfectly by opening at the same time.
And the world came, from 5 p.m. to more than 9 p.m., for this double inauguration, with sales already made.
• The Flea Market of the Comtes d’Exmes
La Brocante des Comtes d’Exmes is located at 39 Grande rue.
Nadine Kolten, already very invested with her husband in the succession of Gérard Barbey and thecommunity animationa passionate about artbeautiful objects and human contact, realize one of his dreamsby opening his store in Exmes.
Like Obélix, I fell into it when I was little, in Chelles, my grandfather took me to the auction house. When I was young, I worked on rampart projects and I have a son who did a degree in art history and ran a flea market. Although I had a business to manage with Alain, I learned to make tapestry, stained glass, and art history.”
In the old Exmes ballroom
When the couple bought the hotel next to the Relais d’M To restore it, “I had in mind having a dedicated room for the flea market.
The death of Thierry (Editor’s note Thierry Fleuriotboss of Relais d’M, who left in November 2023) meant that this old ballroom, known to everyone in the town, no longer had a use.
And as it is next to the hotel and was in great disrepair, we bought back from the municipality and totally have it restored to install this storeeven before starting the restoration of the hotel.”
On the day of the opening, Nadine Kolten confided: “I am happy to have opened today, with Bruno who is also a new resident of Exmes and who, like us, enjoys this Gaulish village so dear to us. our Gérard and wants to get involved in it.”

The second store, A Crab in the Jarat 19 rue Neuve, is more intimatebut also full of treasures.
Bruno Veyret, an antiques dealer by profession for 45 years and arriving in Exmes just a year ago, opened it in part of his property.
“I was an antique dealer for 45 years in the Northern Alpsspecialized inFolk art. We visited this house on 1is December 2023 and we fell in love with it, on April 13 we signed with the notary.”
The idea of this boutique is to continue, despite retirement, this passionate activity, really for pleasure, like Nadine. This is what immediately brought us together as soon as we arrived here.”

“My tastes lead me towards the unique object, the object that charms mecreates the crush. My father gave me the virus, from the age of 15, on the way to high school, I went shopping in the Enghien area,” he emphasizes.
He specifies that it will be open mainly by appointment. “It’s really a fun activityso I don’t want to impose schedules on myself. We will also organize eventswith artist friends or according to meeting opportunities.”

The Crab in the Jar, a nod to Françoise Hardy
