The editorial team advises you
1 Judith Davis
The first to walk the red carpet at the Barbezilian cinema will be Judith Davis. The director, also an actress, will be present for the opening night, January 24, at 8:30 p.m. She will carry her film “Hello Asylum”, her second feature film, after “All That I Remain of the revolution”, produced in 2018. This time, she sketches all the post-covid clichés, of urbanites wishing for life in the countryside. She spares no one, doesn’t take sides, far from a Manichaeism, she makes it funny and light, while making you think.
The director was the first to respond to the Barbezilian festival, supporting her films is part of her DNA. For this new feature film, which takes the three main characters into a third place created in an old abandoned castle, she brings to the screen the same actors as for her first feature film, Claire Dumas, Maxence Tual with whom she works like in a theater troupe.
2 Mathias Mlekuz
It will be difficult to hold back your tears, whether from laughter or sadness, for the screening of this second film in the presence of its director, Saturday 25 at 9 p.m. In “On a bicycle!” », Mathias Mlekuz, who we know as an actor in cinema, television or in the theatre, takes his friend Philippe Rebbot, also an actor, on the trail of his son, Youri, who committed suicide in 2022 in at the age of 28, after his bicycle trip to Istanbul.
In this road movie, the two traveling companions leave La Rochelle to reach Turkey by bicycle, and keep the missing child alive a little longer. Valois for direction, audience and film music at the FFA and audience prize at the Valenciennes Festival, this very personal feature film is, certainly, poignant, moving but, above all, celebrates life and friendship .
3 Julien Menanteau
For this film, “Lads”, director Julien Menanteau explores behind the scenes of the jockey profession. It enters the world of horse racing with its good and bad sides but offers a unifying feature film suitable for all audiences. This is what he will defend in front of the screen of the Barbezilian cinema, Sunday 26 at 5:30 p.m.
Valois for best actor at the FFA, Marco Luraschi, who plays Ethan, apprentice jockey, will perhaps be present at the Club, as will Dominique Besnehard, the co-founder of the Angoumoisin Festival, producer, actor, former artistic agent. Both must confirm.
(1) Cinémania will hold its general meeting on Sunday January 12 at 5 p.m. at the Le Club cinema, before the screening at 8:30 p.m. of “Trois amis”, the first film club of the year.
