” It is a mixture of emotions. I feel tired, but at the same time so relieved. As I said to a friend: I know it’s true, but I still wonder if it’s true all the same.”

The day after his victory on the set of the show has incredible talent, Mathieu Stepson still has a hard time believing it.

Seven years after his first appearance on the M6 show, the magician of Trouville-sur-Mer () warded off fate by becoming the big winner of this 19th season. “When I look at the networks, I see all the media sharing the images of yesterday, my victory. These are images that I usually see with someone else, but here it’s me on them,” smiles the one who continues to fully live his childhood dream that he experienced with the magic case received at Christmas, in his room or on the benches of the Albert Fracasse school.

A magic to “marvel with adult eyes”

When he looks in the rearview mirror of recent weeks, Mathieu Stepson speaks of a “ extraordinary adventure» that he experienced. “It was intensefrom October. The media releases, the interviews to give, the numbers to prepare very quickly between each broadcast, the emotion, the stress, the countdown. But what happiness! », he says, directly, after a marathon of several weeks.

« I'm here to try to surprise you », he said at the start of his first number, during the auditions. A mission more than fulfilled for the Trouvillais who has never stopped, throughout the broadcasts, to captivate and shake up the jury and the public.

At each stage, Mathieu Stepson surprised by its modern approach with tricks where he had fun with the jury, the viewers and the public, but where he also played with screens and timejuggling between past, present and future, and brilliantly mixing magic and mentalism. A magic “modern”which in some way dusts off the image of the discipline.

I'm so happy with what my magic generates, he reacts. That's my goal, to show that magic isn't just for kids, that it's not just a rabbit coming out of a hat, but that it's much more than that. Little by little, we're getting people to understand that magic is also cool for adults and that there are lots of different styles.

A dream rekindled… never to be let go

For Mathieu Stepson, this adventure is all the more beautiful because it was his second participation in the show. In November 2017 he made it to the semi-finals, which opened a lot of doors for him to be able to make a professional living from magic. After his first visit, he created his company and started a show project. A dream that was shattered in mid-flight, with the covid health crisis. “I’ve been fighting for six years to try to bring this show to life, it’s complicated,” he confided to Pays d’Augea few weeks ago.

It is for to “rebirth” this show that he had the idea of “relaunching the dream where it all began”on the set of France has incredible talent. And with this victory, the magic happens for Mathieu Stepson. “I haven't had time to open my email since the semi-final so I think I have a bit of work to do,” he laughs. But I know there is demand, date proposals. I hope to post dates on the website as soon as possible and that things will work.”

Anddream revivedand which should take shape, with a show which is ready, which he will continue to perfect, to continue to captivate his audience. “And above all, I also hope to put on a show as soon as possible at home, between Honfleur and Villers-sur-Mer, to share my happiness with all those who supported me.”
