The start of this adaptation of their web series already bodes well for new success. With 38,023 entries on the day of its release, last Wednesday, Under nuts consolidates the place of Bougheraba as new kings of comedy made in France.
Under nuts follows Sami, a law student wrongly accused of a robbery he did not commit. Victim of a plot orchestrated by the robber Eddy Barra, of whom he is the perfect double, he will try to escape from prison to prove his innocence.
Ichem Bougheraba, star of Segpaplays the two main roles. And responds to his accomplice Segpa Arriles Amrani as well as Bernard Farcy, the unforgettable commissioner Gibert de TaxiRedouane Bougheraba and Emma Smet.
Long in the making
As Les Segpa, Under nuts was directed by their brother Hakim Bougheraba. After the success of their previous comedies, he benefited from “more resources” and a longer filming time, almost two months.
The film has been in the works for several years. “It was written before Les Segpa 2“, specifies Hakim Bougheraba to BFMTV.com. “But we shifted Under nuts because it was necessary to turn quickly Les Segpa 2 because of the snow.”
“There was a lot of logistics involved Under nuts“, explains Hakim Bougheraba, who blocked the Old Port of Marseille for explosion scenes. “We prepared the stunts two years before filming. We thought for a long time about what we wanted to do.”
For the family
With Under nutstheir ambition is to make a Bad Boys with Marseille sauce sprinkled with references to Asian action cinema, renowned for being one of the most inventive in the world. They were particularly inspired by the film The Villainess.
And like Jackie Chan, Sami confronts his enemies using the means at hand like a frying pan or a hookah. “Sami can’t do backflips, he’s just a pizza delivery guy. He hasn’t had a fight in his life,” insists Hakim Bougheraba.
“It was fun to do,” adds Ichem Bougheraba. “It’s not every day you throw cutlery at someone or strangle someone with a shisha hose!”
Also a way of making a film without violence, accessible to all. “Our parents watch our films, we pay attention. But we had to keep the tone of the prison, where the film takes place, to be a little realistic,” explains Hakim Bougheraba.
“We don’t want to be caricatured, we don’t want to be too clownish,” continues Ichem Bougheraba. “If it’s too crazy, the public will expect anything. For the floodgates to work, it’s better to have a more or less serious tone.”
Legitimation
A sign that the Bougheraba have gained credibility in the French cinema world, Under nuts is supported by France 2. “When we made the meeting with them, they told me that they needed our films.”
“They immediately followed us. It went very well with them,” continues the director. “That they are interested in these kinds of films is great. It’s gratifying. It’s a kind of legitimization.”
Under nuts also fills a void in French cinema: “We are offering a film for teenagers,” explains Ichem Bougheraba. “When you look closely, there aren’t many teen films coming out the rest of the year. We have a strong young audience.”
Registry change
Their next film should, however, be different from Segpa and of Under nuts. Hakim and Ichem Bougheraba wrote together a film that is “a little more serious”, “less comedy”. “We are changing register,” warns Ichem Bougheraba.
“It’s not because we’ve made successful comedies that we’re going to take the easy route. We want to tell stories,” insists Hakim Bougheraba. Filming planned for next year.
For the rest of the Segpayou will have to wait several years. “Les Segpa 3the ideal is to do it in 2026, to celebrate the 10 years of Segpa the web series”, promises Ichem Bougheraba.
