Director James Gunn has released the first images from the new Superman film. Release scheduled for July 9, 2025.
Superman is back in theaters. James Gunn, director of the new adventure of the Man of Steel, unveiled this Thursday, December 19 on social networks the first trailer for his film, which is expected in cinemas on July 9, 2025.
This film, which will mark the start of the new shared universe of DC superheroes, will not once again tell the story of the origins of Superman, born on Krypton but raised in a small town in Kansas after the destruction of his home planet.
Played this time by David Corenswet, Superman will try in this new film to find a balance between his Kryptonian heritage and his earthly education. The film should be inspired by the comics All-Star Superman by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely.
David Corenswet, seen in particular in the Netflix series Hollywoodwill star Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane), Nicholas Hoult (Lex Luthor) and Nathan Fillion (Green Lantern). We will also see in the film CryptoSuperman’s super dog.
Optimistic version
Before David Corenswet, Christopher Reeve, Brandon Routh and more recently Henry Cavill played Superman on the big screen – a prestigious and coveted role in Hollywood.
“My wildest dream would be to play Superman,” David Corenswet confided in 2019 to the magazine Entertainment Weekly. “I love Henry Cavill’s dark, realistic version, but I hope the next one will be more optimistic.”
James Gunn intends to relaunch the DC cinematic universe. An adaptation of the comics Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is expected in theaters in June 2026, with Milly Alcock, the star of House of Dragon, as Superman’s cousin.
A new Batman, The Brave and the Boldwhich will focus on the Dark Knight and his entourage, including Robin, is also in the works. The work of screenwriter Grant Morrison will be the main inspiration for this film.
