New images of Jurassic World 4 have just dropped, and director Gareth Edwards explains how risky it was to get them.
It is one of the most anticipated blockbusters of 2025: Jurassic World – Renaissance will have the heavy task of succeeding the trilogy headed by Colin Trevorrow and restoring a little faith in the saga initiated a long time ago by Jurassic Park by Steven Speilberg and the novel by Michael Crichton. This time, it’s Gareth Edwards, director of Godzilla, Rogue One et The Creatorwho is at the helm.
With Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali and Jonathan Bailey in the cast, already seen in a few images, the film is now revealed with more visuals. Photos that reveal a hostile environment, and which was not only for the charactersdepending on what the director says about a particularly physical shoot… and simply dangerous.
Jurassic World 4 in pictures, but not in dinos
The first thing to note in these new, unseen images revealed by Entertainment Weeklyis thatwe still don’t see any dinosaurs. It will therefore be necessary sit on our curiosity for a while longer main and make do with the rest. The rest in question is Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey and their little comrades who snort in the jungle in search of dinosaur DNA from which a major cure for humanity could be created.
Different images which recall very specific scenes already encountered in the saga: the image of Johansson and Bailey in full discussion in what could be a caravan resembles a scene from the Lost World between Julianne Moore and Jeff Goldblum, and the same goes for the image of Johansson jogging in front of the headlights of a jeep. Off-road cars, mysterious briefcases, dirty tank tops and exotic vegetation: all the codes of the Jurassic attitude are present (except for these famous dinosaurs).
And it’s not surprising, because withEntertainment WeeklyGareth Edwards insisted his desire to honor the origins of the saga :
“For me, it’s a great love letter to Steven Spielberg and his early films. There are moments in this film that remind me a lot of Jaws. It’s like a little compilation of all the things from his films that I loved as a child. It’s an adventure, like a sort of little Odyssey across the island, a story of survival.”
Jurassic World 4 and its almost fatal shooting
And to do like Uncle Spielberg, Gareth Edwards didn’t beat around the bush. Jaws was filmed directly in the ocean? No problem, Edwards did the same (and encountered the same difficulties):
This is probably the last film that I will shoot at sea, because it was very difficult. I’m glad we held on, but I think everyone, all the actors, had an adventure as intense as the characters in the film, going through extremely physical things, sometimes even near-death experiences, which give incredible results when we succeed in accomplishing them.”
If these comments give the impression that the actors and technicians of the film almost passed through it more than once on the setmaybe it’s because it’s true. Always nearEntertainment WeeklyGareth Edwards gave more details on the conditions of filming sequences taking place in the mangrove, as one of the new images shows:
“I have the right to talk about it, now that all this has happened, but we filmed in rivers and swamps in the middle of mangroves. When we explored them, we saw venomous water snakes, huge specimens that we had to catch. The actors were told nothing while they spent their days floundering in these same places. There were giant, poisonous spiders on the trees, and you shouldn’t tell when you saw them. We had to continue!”
Is Edwards exaggerating the risks taken a little to drum up anticipation around the film? It’s possible, but regardless, the filming appears to have been particularly intense. While we hope that it pays off and that the fauna and flora have not been too traumatized by the passage of filming, the director already seems to want to set the table again and tease the possibility of future films Jurassic World :
“I can’t speak for Universal, but I think it looks like a new trilogy. I don’t know exactly what they’re planning, but it looks like the start of a new chapter in the franchise.
While the film is only scheduled to be released in theaters on July 2, 2025, Edwards is perhaps putting the cart a little before the dinosaurs (which we are definitely waiting to discover), but his statements should at least reassure us that the big show will be there.
