The actor, who was urgently hospitalized in the spring of 2023 to treat a “medical complication”, commented on his mysterious health problem in his new stand-up.
Back on stage after a long absence linked to a mysterious health problem, Jamie Foxx revealed this week in his new stand-up What Had Happened Was… having suffered a stroke in the spring of 2023 following a brain hemorrhage on the set of his film Back in Action in Atlanta.
“On April 11 (2023), I felt like I had a horrible migraine. I asked my assistant for an aspirin. I quickly realized that during a medical emergency, your assistants don't necessarily know what what needs to be done,” he explained, visibly very moved.
The actor then collapsed to the ground, before he could even take his aspirin. 20 days later, he woke up in the hospital, with no memory of what had just happened to him. According to those close to him, the actor went to a doctor who treated him poorly and sent him home with only a cortisone injection.
“It’s a mystery”
It was his sister, Deidra Dixon, sensing that her brother's condition was very serious, who decided to take him to the hospital. Upon arriving there, doctors confirmed that the actor had had an intracerebral hemorrhage which had led to a stroke. And that he risked dying if he was not operated on immediately.
Even today, Jamie Foxx says he does not know the origin of his stroke. “It’s a mystery,” he insisted in his show. “We don't know yet what happened to me. All I can tell you is that I appreciate every prayer you give me because I need every prayer.”
Jamie Foxx has spoken out on several occasions about his health problem. “I don’t wish that on my worst enemy, because it’s hard,” he said in December 2023. I have a new form of respect for life. I have a new form of respect for my art.”
The Oscar-winning actor for the film Ray will be showing on January 17 of the action comedy Back in Actionwhich marks the return of Cameron Diaz in front of the cameras. The film will be broadcast on Netflix.
