The general meeting of the God Save The Kouign association took place this Friday, December 6, 2024 at the Maison pour tous (MPT), in Penmarc’h. Yohan Madec, the president, gave a very positive assessment “in a very difficult context” explaining that “nearly half of the festivals which are 90% full are in deficit. In 2024, 14% of festivals are not sure whether a next edition will take place.”
Record and 2024
The God Save The Kouign festival, the last edition of which took place on June 21 and 22 at the municipal stadium, was a success. Nearly 7,000 people, lovers of music and conviviality gathered. A record. The festival has “a somewhat atypical economic model, with 27% of the budget (15% on average) financed by private partnerships (€120,000) via a solid network of companies” and subsidies of €24,000. Yohan Madec thanked the 250 volunteers “who participated in the assembly, dismantling and during the event and in autumnal conditions” but also a big congratulations to “the intermittent technical team (17 employees + 4 interns)” before adding “Beyond a team of competent people, we are above all a great group of friends.”
The 2025 program unveiled Friday 13 in Kérity
A sixth edition is scheduled for June 13 and 14. As for new features, there will be a catering area under a marquee. But for Yohan Madec, no gigantism. “The festival must remain faithful to the GSTK brand, the gauge increases to 4,000 days instead of 3,500 over two days, or 500 additional spectators.”
The program will be announced on Friday, December 13 from 7 p.m. at the restaurant Le Vivier des etocs in Kérity. The evening is open to all. At 8:30 p.m., the group Saguaro (Quimper) will play live and around 10:30 p.m. a DJ Set will be provided by the festival programmers. This December 13, the first Gold passes will go on sale. Tickets will be sold online from Saturday, December 14 on the godsavethekouign.bzh website.
The association is not just the festival, it is a larger cultural project with year-round programming. In September, she even pulled off a big coup by welcoming Manu Chao to the Cap Caval venue! Other great dates are to come, starting with a concert by the Americans from The Last Internationale is scheduled for March 14, still at the Cap Caval hall.
To close the meeting, Yohan Madec thanked the municipality for the help of the technical services and the acquisition of a new stage. Culture representative Gilles Bernard praised the contribution of this entire team to “living well together”. Finally, two donations of €1,000 were given to the Un Horizon d’Espoir association which supports research into pediatric cancer and to the Ty brezoneneg ar vro vigouden association as part of the defense of the Breton language.
