It was at the Dominion Theatre, in London’s West End, that the musical comedy of the film ”The Devil Wears Prada”, released in 2006, took place.
Vanessa Williams succeeds Meryl Streep in the role of Runway magazine editor Miranda Priestly, who was considered too demanding.
Williams, previously played another magazine editor, Wilhelmina Slater, in the television series ”Ugly Betty”
”I think musically it works perfectly because there’s a whole crescendo and ascension of the chords, and you know something is going to happen. And I literally wear the sunglasses that people expect. I have Runway magazine, which people wait for.” Vanessa Williams explains.
Georgie Buckland plays Andy. Young graduate in journalism, who became the assistant of Miranda, the influential editor-in-chief.
“I had a very funny one at the end. I say this thing where I write an article about the janitors union. At the end of the show, Luke, who plays the interviewer, says, “What a great article about the janitor union.” And this woman in the audience goes “ha!” and we’re like, “Oh my God, what?” “. It was clear she was saying “That’s a funny joke.” It’s like no, no,” she says.
Matt Henry, conceived his version of artistic director of Runway, as a tribute to the pioneering black men of the fashion industry.
“So I had to come back to reality: who are the creative directors of this era? Who are these black men who paved the way, who came forward and who are known worldwide, like Edward Enninful of British Vogue and André Leon Talley, who we honor in the big cape that I wear towards the end. And in the song “Devil Wears Prada,” which is performed at the Met Gala. So it’s from these men that I took inspiration. And then I brought them closer to me, of course,…”, explains the actor.
The show “The Devil Wears Prada” is currently playing at the Dominion Theater in London until October 2025.
