British singer Elton John has announced that he went blind following an eye infection.

The 77-year-old star declared during the West End Gala: “I lost my sight so I couldn't see the performance but I loved listening to it.”

Sad news for the author of “Rocket Man”, who had already been less than reassuring last week about his state of health, speaking to ABC News: “I haven't done anything for a long time. I lost the sight in my right eye due to an eye infection I had in the south of France. For four months I haven't been able to see anything. My left eye is not the best. There is hope that things will improve but the situation is not good at the moment.”
“I can do something like this interview, but going to the studio and recording myself, I don’t know. I can't read lyrics, to begin with. The fact of not seeing anything, not being able to read or not being able to watch anything undermined me,” he added.
