For several months, scams with false images generated by artificial intelligence, called “Boomer traps”, have been shared on social networks. Their goal? Trick you into funding fake donation campaigns.
It’s a trap full of mischief that has been all the rage on social networks for several months. Mainly present on Facebook, “boomer traps” are trendy traps powered by artificial intelligence which aim to trap their victims in the long term.
Mainly aimed at elderly people, not very adept at social networks and rather sensitive by nature, these online traps are published on Facebook in the form of AI-generated images featuring children in fields giving an optical illusion or even women with pretty features complaining about not getting as many likes as some celebrities.
Pay attention to details so as not to get trapped
If in certain cases, this AI-generated content makes it possible to collect income through traffic, it is also estimated that “boomer traps” are used to target elderly people in order to lead them towards false donation campaigns, or even cryptocurrency scams.
By clicking the “Like” button or commenting on these contents, the scammers behind these accounts posting trapped content can then target the trapped people.
It is possible to avoid being trapped by paying attention to some details in the images such as the number of fingers, incomprehensible texts or even anatomical problems. More generally, always remain cautious of campaigns inviting you to finance associations, operations, etc. As long as they are not attached to an official organization.
