“The basis of patriarchy is the definition of women’s bodies by their sexual and maternal functions, and there is a sexist continuum that spares no area of social life, and of which rape is the paroxysm,” summarizes the philosopher in a café in eastern Paris, just before the French electoral thunderclap putting the National Rally on the threshold of power. She also already mentioned a period “where everything is tense,” particularly with the hindsight of abortion in the United States.
