Poetry, a literary genre often considered hermetic or elitist, is today in full revival, especially among the younger generations. Bars, social networks, on the skin or even in the hospital… Here is a Prévert-style inventory!

Sales of poetry books have increased by more than 40% in the last five years, which makes publishers happy. But poetry today is outside of books, it is written and shared on social networks or in bars that offer open stages.

Episode 1 : “Eat your words”

In Paris, several bars regularly host open poetry scenes. A place where everyone can come and read or just listen to poems. For example, at Lou Pascalou in the 20th arrondissement, the meeting place for “Mange tes mots”.

If poetry is so successful among young people, it is partly thanks to social networks, Tik-Tok and especially Instagram where Instapoets sometimes world-famous flourish. Poems are also sometimes written on the skin in the form of tattoos.

Episode 3 : Words in the hospital

For 4 years, actors from the Théâtre de la Ville have launched poetic consultations in 6 Parisian hospitals. Moments where the beauty of words tries to make us forget the pain of ailments.

Episode 4: Exploding sales

In bookstores, sales of poetry books have increased by more than 40% over the last 5 years. Some collections, such as that of poems by the singer of the group Feu Chatterton, have been a hit and this revival of poetry is making publishing houses happy, with new ones just created or old ones being relaunched.
