“Phew love” dethroned. For its 4th week in theaters, Gilles Lellouche's film had competition: the highly anticipated “Gladiator II”, directed by Ridley Scott, released Wednesday November 13. Unsurprisingly, the American blockbuster ranked at the top of the most seen films this week in cinemas, already reaching one million spectators. In detail, 1.27 million curious people rushed into the dark rooms to watch the fights in the arena of Lucius (Paul Mescal), the son of Maximus (the hero of “Gladiator”, played in 2000 by Russell Crowe ).
“Mr. Aznavour” dubbed by “Juror No. 2”
The 2h28 film, in which we also find Pedro Pascal and Denzel Washington, achieves the 4th best first week of 2024 and is inserted between “Dune, second part” by Denis Villeneuve (1.38 million admissions) and “Deadpool & Wolverine” by Shawn Levy (1.20 million entries). The first place in this ranking is occupied by “Vice-Versa 2”, which attracted 1.93 million spectators the week of its release.

On the 2nd step of the box office podium, “L’amour ouf” therefore lost a place and 44% attendance in one week. The passionate love story full of obstacles between Jackie (Adèle Exarchopoulos) and Clotaire (François Civil) attracted nearly 400,000 new spectators for its 4th week of operation. A performance that allows it to exceed 4 million tickets sold. Bronze medalist, “Juror No. 2” passes in front of “Mr. Aznavour”. With its 252,000 additional spectators, the legal feature film directed by Clint Eastwood reached and exceeded one million admissions.

The biopic on Charles Aznavour, by Mehdi Idir and Grand Corps Malade, is just behind and is slowly but surely approaching 2 million admissions in total. In the rest of the ranking, the Cannes Palme d'Or “Anora” holds up well and does not move in the ranking over a week. The American feature film directed by Sean Baker, which tells the story of the union of an American prostitute with the son of a Russian oligarch whom the latter's family wants to break up at all costs, reached 450,000 admissions.
The last Lelouch arrives on tiptoe
Two new releases occupy the last two places in the Top 10 and are neck and neck in number of tickets sold: “Finally”, the latest film by Claude Lelouch with Kad Merad and Elsa Zylberstein (77,000 admissions) and “The Valley of Fools “, directed by Xavier Beauvois, with Jean-Paul Rouve in the title role (75,000 admissions). We have to go back to 2005 to find a film by Claude Lelouch which did less well in the first week of release. This is “Courage to Love”, with Mathilde Seigner and Maïwenn, which attracted only a little more than 47,000 spectators.
