Huge relief for Ophélie Gaillard. The musician has once again found her precious instrument, a cello worth 1.3 million euros. It was stolen during the burglary of his home in Geneva on September 25. Two bows estimated at 45,000 euros each were also part of the loot taken that night. An investigation was opened and the information was widely reported by the media. The cellist had also launched an appeal.
After two months of investigations, the gendarmes carried out a major operation last Tuesday in Saint-Julien-en-Genevois, reports “Le Dauphiné Libéré”. The instruments were able to be recovered “in perfect condition”, according to the cellist. Three individuals, aged between 25 and 45, were arrested. They were to appear in court this Thursday, one for theft by climbing into a home, the others for receiving stolen property.
The cello, made in 1737, had already been stolen by a man armed with a knife in front of Ophélie Gaillard’s former home, in Seine-Saint-Denis (F), before being found intact in a car. Unsaleable, it is the property of a bank, which lends it to the international musician.
