the essential
As part of the fight against violence against women, “Marie”, the short film by two Toulouse residents, will be broadcast this evening in Paris. The directors hope to raise awareness.
A woman abused by her former partner, attacked in the street, victim of inappropriate remarks in a bar or a taxi… So many situations experienced by women, and condensed in 25 minutes by Guillaume Huynh Quan Suu and Rémy Alonso, two directors from Toulouse.
Made in Toulouse in spring 2023, their short film “Marie” will be broadcast for the first time in Paris this Thursday evening at the Brady cinema, at 8:45 p.m. (by reservation). The film, which explores the violence suffered by women, aims to raise public awareness of the daily attacks they suffer and to disseminate crucial information for victims, such as emergency numbers.
“Around Rémy, many women have testified to having suffered sexual assault. As for me, having two children, I wanted to deal with this subject and show the violence that we often talk about but which we do not see,” explains Guillaume.
Several distinctions
The directors were surprised by the scale of the phenomenon after collecting numerous testimonies. Rémy Alonso’s ex-partner contributed to the writing of the script by sharing her personal experiences, which brought a more brutal dimension to the film. “We are disgusted to see that so many women are affected by violence. We was far from imagining all this.”
For the moment, “Marie” has been screened in numerous festivals where it has been distinguished on numerous occasions. After the screening, discussions with spectators are organized. “We have sometimes been criticized for writing on this subject even though we were men. I don’t understand why that would prevent us from speaking out in defense of women. We also invite them to come and see the film with men because it It is especially to them that it is addressed.”
From the first quarter of 2025, the film will be uploaded to YouTube. In partnership with the collective We allan educational file is being prepared, intended for teachers and associations to help them use it in their awareness-raising activities.
