30 years after “Forrest Gump”, Tom Hanks and Robin Wright reveal themselves in a revolutionary film

Robin Wright and Tom Hanks meet, love each other and grow old together in the same place in “Here”, a new film by Robert Zemeckis which promises to be revolutionary. A first trailer has been revealed, and we already have tears in our eyes…

Here revealed in first images

The filmmaker Robert Zemeckis, director in particular of the trilogy Back to the future et Forrest Gumpwill soon return to the cinema, with an extremely anticipated film (trailer at the top of the article). It is Here, adaptation of the famous comic strip by Richard McGuire. The concept of this story is very interesting: rather than exploring characters on their own, it’s the story of a unique place that we discover, a place on earth represented at different times, millions of years BC. JC until the year 22 175. Of course, it is humanity which is told here, by the different living beings and humans who occupy this place and modify it over time.

To adapt this story for the big screen, Robert Zemeckis chose to take the comic strip form: one and the same fixed plan of the place, which changes appearance and occupants as the story moves forward, backwards, and jumps non-linearly from one era to another. The scenario of Here is ensured by Eric Rothalready at work on Forrest Gump.

In a major interview with Vanity Fair, Robert Zemeckis explains:

The angle never changes, but everything around it changes. It’s never been done before. Similar scenes can be found in the first silent films, before language and editing were invented.

Tom Hanks and Robin Wright at all ages

The two main actors of Here are Tom Hanks and Robin Wright, and it’s already moving to find Forrest and Jenny, 30 years after the masterpiece Forrest Gump. And the story of Here should generate a new and powerful emotion, since we will see them pass through all ages in this place that they will occupy for a long time.

A pioneer of visual innovation in Hollywood, Robert Zemeckis has teamed up with a company specializing in deepfakesMetaphysic. Le de-aging applied to the actors seems convincing in this first trailer, but it will be over the length of the film that the benefit of this technology can be seriously evaluated.

We will see the characters played by Tom Hanks and Robin Wright, Richard and Margaret, cross the 60s, 70s and 80s. Other actors, notably Paul Bettany and Kelly Reilly, will explore other eras, but always in the same place. The performances of the casting will be decisive so that the film, shot with only one camera angle, can still take a movement and take the public with him.
