Twelve concerts, between jazz and classical, are on the program of the Toulouse Festival from June 29 to July 13, including a world premiere between Ibrahim Maalouf and the Orchestre National du Capitole, in homage to Saint-Exupéry for the 80th anniversary of the death of the aviator and writer.

The 3e edition of the Toulouse Festival promises to be creative and eclectic. While classical music is the main focus, jazz, variety, musical readings and gospel will punctuate the event, from June 29 to July 13, in different locations around the city. Gospel will open the show on Saturday evening at the Barrière Casino. A creation by Tatiana Gronti, revelation of the first edition of the Toulouse Festival, and the Gospel Symphony Orchestra will bring together 34 artists on stage.

For its second evening, the Toulouse Festival is joining forces with the Marathon des mots, Sunday at 6 p.m., at the Saint-Pierre des Cuisines auditorium. For the 70e anniversary of the publication of “Bonjour Tristesse”, the actress Kim Higelin, revealed in “Le Consentement”, will read extracts from the novel by Françoise Sagan, accompanied by the pianist Vanessa Benelli Mosell.

Jazz and cinema

Jazz and cinema atmosphere, the next day, with Kyle Eastwood Quintet, at the Théâtre de la Cité. “This is a partnership with the Cinémathèque where extracts from his father’s films will be screened during the concert,” announces Julien Martineau, mandolinist and artistic director of the festival.

Having become essential on the Toulouse scene, Jean-François Zygel will set to music a meeting with Walt Disney, Tuesday July 2, still at the Théâtre de la Cité which will also serve as a setting for a world creation in homage to the aviator and writer Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. For two evenings, Thursday July 4 and Friday July 5, trumpeter and composer Ibrahim Maalouf will use his carte blanche to celebrate Saint-Exupéry with the Orchester National du Capitole.

Variety is not absent from the program with a concert entitled “Our classics”, Sunday July 7, at the Théâtre du Capitole. With this new creation, Christophe Willem and Yvan Cassar will revisit the singer’s titles and review a very broad repertoire, from Mylène Farmer to Nougaro.

Louise Jallu Quartet will be on stage at the Saint-Pierre des Cuisines auditorium with the repertoire of Astor Piazzolla for a musical journey to Argentina, Monday July 8. The next day, at the same place, a new musical reading will feature the famous sports commentator Nelson Montfort as reciter for “Dans la tête d’Horowitz”, a tribute to the virtuoso pianist. Still at Saint-Pierre des Cuisines, a musical breath from the Balkans will punctuate the evening of Wednesday July 10 with Srdjan Grujicic.

Local artists

The people of Toulouse will also be in the spotlight with a “Prodiges” set that will bring together, on Thursday, July 11, at the Saint-Pierre des Cuisines auditorium, young lyrical and musical hopefuls whose talent already shines on the national and sometimes international scene. This new creation brings together soprano Claire Bouyssou, tenor François Pardailhé, alto Baptiste Donadio and pianist Constant Desprès. Virtuosos for whom we hope the same career as the famous violinist Manon Galy who will perform, on Friday, July 12, at the Théâtre de la Cité, with the Toulouse Chamber Orchestra, “Les Quatre saisons” by Vivaldi then “The Four seasons recomposed” by Max Richter. A musical and technical feat.

As a Bordeaux neighbor, the baritone Florian Sempey, who distinguished himself during the Capitole opera season in “Cendrillon”, will close the festival, Saturday July 13, at Saint-Pierre des Cuisines, with “The most beautiful Neapolitan melodies “.

For economic and climatic reasons, all shows will take place indoors this year.
