Joachim Son-Forget, former French MP, announced on Monday November 18, 2024 to our colleagues from the Swiss daily Blick that he had made his gender transition and changed first name.
« It wasn’t easy to choose, but I like Eva » explains the one who now identifies as a woman. The change of sex was easy in Switzerland with a simple declaration to the civil registry to the Geneva administration.
It’s the start of a new life for Eva Son-Forget which explains that “ this statuary change is very important to me » and that the recognition of her transition by others makes her “ come true “. In the face of possible criticism, particularly from her former Zemmourist camp, Eva intends to take responsibility for her choice and speak out for those “ who cannot live their life as they dream of it ». « It is a call for tolerance and freedom to choose one’s gender identity.” she continues in the Swiss daily.
A political journey sowing discord
Eva Son-Forget was elected from 2017 to 2022 in the sixth constituency of French people established outside France. A time supporter of Éric Zemmour in 2022, but above all a Macronist, the Franco-Swiss-Kosovar born in Seoul was a candidate in the 2022 presidential election.
A trained radiologist, Eva Son-Forget was tumultuous during her mandate within the group La République en Marche then UDI, Agir et indépendants, having also been excluded from these groups because of her use of social networks and in particular from Twitter. In September 2018, she defends the showman Marcel Campion after the latter publicly made homophobic remarks.
Two years later, she deliberately distributed on Twitter a link leading to the viewing of private extramarital videos of a sexual nature of Benjamin Griveaux, deputy and candidate in the 2020 municipal elections in Paris.
In the summer of 2024, the ex-Macronist returned to the forefront by being arrested in Paris after refusing to comply while driving under the influence of cocaine.
Forced internment
Her reflection on her “sexual identity” had, according to her, led her to receive two new internment measures ordered by psychiatrists after having been “forcibly hospitalized in Geneva”. She then fled the canton to escape it. Moreover, “ this change, this more feminine attitude, provoked the ire of those around me personally and professionally », she told Blick.
Eva Son-Forget expresses that she rules out a return to politics for the moment.
