We come across them almost every day without necessarily paying attention to them. And yet, without these checkout attendants, these bakers, fishmongers, butchers, pastry chefs, our supermarkets would have no soul. It is to these women and men, finally put back in the spotlight since the health crisis, that the documentary series The secret life of supermarketsbroadcast this Wednesday June 26 on 6ter decided to take an interest.

From dawn to dusk, everyone is busy behind the scenes in our hypermarkets so that customers don’t miss anything. A world apart which, behind its tidy windows and shelves, hides its share of unforeseen events: from out of stock in the middle of a gunshot to the most extravagant requests from customers.
The daily life of supermarket employees
A daily life strewn with successes and failures, when it comes to luring us with promotions and bets on new products, and emotions too: with the joys and sorrows shared between colleagues. Not to mention the stress faced with consumers who are ever more demanding and in a hurry, funny, touching, courageous, sometimes complaining…
Working in a supermarket also means being in a team, and dealing with the personalities of your colleagues. There are clashes, laughter, funny situations, but no one ever loses sight of the store’s common objective: to serve and satisfy thousands of customers every day.
By following the daily lives of Netto employees in Saint-Contest, near Caen (Normandy), the Hyper U in Saint-Maximin (Hauts de France) and the Carrefour in Brest (Brittany), the series aims to highlight the adventures and misadventures of these shadow workers.
