Haikus and illustrations: the Canconnaise Marie-Claude Eguimendia wanted to amaze by publishing a new book “Les Seigneurs de Cancor”, because she is launching into a fairly new technique for her: haiku, a style of writing coming from far back in time and used in Japan for a very long time. The left page is reserved for his haikus and the right page for moments from the Middle Ages illustrated by the artist in watercolor. There, “the Troubadour and his poems proclaimed to his Belle”. There too “the young Lord walking in his very soothing gardens”, here “the Gentle Lady near the well admires her flowers”, further still “the young Pages practice fighting with wooden swords”… He There are 23 watercolors and 23 haikus. A beautiful work published on artist’s paper and presented as follows by the author: “The spring sun warms the air and its rays dance on the stones of the wall of the ruins of the Cancon castle…” The reader is invited “to relive” moments from the imaginary daily life of the Lords and inhabitants of the 11th century, before the Hundred Years’ War.
