Tamayo Perry, 49, surfer, ocean rescue swimmer and actor, died on Sunday June 23 after being bitten by a shark while surfing off the north coast of Oahu, an island on the Hawaiian archipelago. After responding to a call for help, rescuers brought his body by jet ski to shore, where he was pronounced dead.

Tamayo Perry had small roles in several films, such as “Charlie’s Angels: The Angels Go Wild!”, “Blue Crush” and “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Fountain of Youth”. He was also seen in an episode of the series “Hawaii 5-0”.

He had worked as a lifeguard for Ocean Savety since 2016 and had been surfing professionally for over a decade.

“Tamayo Perry was a lifeguard loved by everyone, well known on the North Shore, and a professional surfer known worldwide. Tamayo’s personality was contagious, and as much as people loved him, he loved everyone more,” Kurt Lager, the acting head of ocean security, said in a statement. HawaiiNewsNow.

Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi called Tamayo Perry’s death a “tragic loss.” “Tamayo was a legendary and well-respected sailor,” he said, adding that he “grew up here” and was “just a wonderful member of our Ocean Safety team.”
