Two years after the Oscar slap incident, the artist will make his return to the stage at the BET Awards on Sunday June 30 where he will perform a new song live.
Return to music for Will Smith. Two years after his altercation with comedian Chris Rock during the Oscars ceremony in 2022, the actor and singer will return to the stage for the first time, on Sunday June 30, during the BET Awards.
As reported by the American media VarietyWill Smith will unveil a new song live for the occasion during this ceremony which rewards African-American personalities in the field of entertainment.
“From his debut as a rapper in ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ to his box office kingpin in ‘Bad Boys,’ Will Smith is a true global icon,” said Connie Orlando, programmer of the event, in a press release.
“We are honored to welcome him to the BET Awards stage,” she added.
Return to the forefront
Having become persona non grata in Hollywood after the slap incident at the Oscars in 2022, Will Smith has gradually made his return to public. Last April, the artist was invited by singer J.Balvin to perform on stage during the famous American festival Coachella.
Together they performed the hit Men In Black, soundtrack of the eponymous 1997 film in which Will Smith plays and which contributed to his notoriety.
In the cinema, Will Smith also starred in the film Emancipation by Antoine Fuqua in 2023 and reprized his role in the police comedy Bad Boys with his sidekick Martin Lawrence for a fourth part of the franchise, released at the beginning of June.
