The return of the Republican Donald Trump in the White House left a bitter taste for many Hollywood stars who had massively supported Democrat Kamala Harris. And among these personalities desperate for this result, there are Eva Longoria who had nevertheless ardently campaigned and pounded the pavement to defend the vice-president’s candidacy among the Latino community. In vain. “What’s shocking isn’t that he won. It’s that a convicted felon who spews so much hatred could hold the highest office, she confided to Marie Claire US two days after the US presidential election. I would like to think that our fight continues. If he keeps his promises, this country will become a scary place.”she added.

Eva Longoria, anxious and sad

For her, this comeback was the last straw. She therefore made a radical, but carefully considered, decision: she fled her country. In fact, it has been several years since the actress more or less abandoned Hollywood. She and her husband José Bastón, as well as their son Santiago, 6 years old, share most of their time between Spain (in Marbella) and Mexico. A lifestyle that suits him perfectly, especially since the filming of films and series has become largely globalized. But this departure is not without some regrets… and bitter observations.

“I’ve spent my entire adult life here (in Los Angeles, editor’s note). But even before [la pandémie]the city was changing. The atmosphere was differentnoticed the former Gaby of Desperate Housewives And then Covid arrived, and it changed everything. Whether it’s the homeless or the taxes, not to disparage California, I feel like this chapter of my life is over.”she stressed. But Eva Longoria is perfectly aware of one thing. If she was able to leave, it’s because she has the means: “I am a privilegedshe admitted to the magazine. I can escape and go somewhere else. Most Americans aren’t so lucky. They’re going to get stuck in this dystopian countryand it is for them that I feel anxiety and sadness.”

A scary reality

A dystopian country? There are indeed many who (re)make the connection between the America of Trump and Gilead. Gilead? It is this totalitarian republic led by religious fundamentalists where men have all the rights over women’s bodies imagined by the Canadian Margaret Atwood in her book The Scarlet Maid… A novel that some describe as “prophetic”, even though it was published in 1985. And it is undoubtedly no coincidence that this best-seller, adapted into a series, has seen its sales skyrocket these last few days. Just like 1984by George Orwell, CNN reported.
