Guillaume Meurice celebrates his (forced) departure from France Inter in Paris

Guillaume Meurice is fired from France Inter. But he has no intention of letting gloom settle in. He announced on Instagram on Wednesday his intention to celebrate his departure, with a “Party party (forced) with all of you! » this Friday, June 21, in Paris.

“Entry is free but we know you, you will book and forget, distracted as you will be by a tofu steak or a petition for a vasectomy from Gérald Darmanin. So, we ask you to contribute the amount of your choice, which we will donate to Médecins du Monde. See you Friday ! Hasta la bamboche siempre! »wrote the comedian on the social network.

“For me it’s a bit of a funny time. For the country, a little less »

Reached by telephone, Guillaume Meurice immediately puts France Inter’s dismissal decision into perspective: “For me, it’s a bit of a funny time. For the country, a little less.”

Funny because “I had time to anticipate. Since the beginning of May, I didn’t have much hope that things would get better. So now I’m preparing for the next part. I have meetings to see where I can bounce back in September, at the start of the school year. So, this period is a bit of a field of possibilities. Hence this party » he jokes.

“I wanted to organize this event in a bar in “whoever wants to come” mode. But the bar owners I contacted told me “if there are 3,000 people who show up and block the street, it’s going to be complicated and it could get us into trouble.” he continues.

Guillaume Meurice touched by the wave of support

So he found a place, 101 quai Jacques Chirac. “The capacity is limited to 400 people. But 400 people isn’t bad at a party. I left it open to whoever wants to come, and I left a small part for friends, former colleagues, just to finish in style and start again on something else”assures the comedian.

This (forced) starting pot therefore falls “the day of the music festival, and a French team match. But don’t worry, there will be screens.” he jokes. “The DJ is very funny and very good at livening up the evenings. I think we’re going to have a lot of fun, it’s going to do everyone good », he continues.

Guillaume Meurice admits to being touched by the support from the public and his colleagues from Le Grand Dimanche Soir: ” It is heartwarming. But I understand that it’s not just support for me, it’s also support for public service. People are very worried about what is happening on the radio, especially since the show is doing very well. »he rejoices.

Not surprised by his ouster

He is hardly surprised by his ouster: “A week before my layoff, management had already announced that they were cutting our budget by 30%. At the start of the school year, we had already moved from a daily show to a weekly show: the trend was clearly not good. We therefore see the chosen trajectory. It is the space for political satire that is shrinking in the country”he believes.

He broadens the point: “I think there are more of us than we think. And that gives you strength to face what comes next. We couldn’t expect anything else from these people.”

And to conclude: “The alliance of the bourgeoisie with the extreme right is a classic in the history of France. Spoiler: it never ends too well.”
