Raphaël Quenard will play Johnny Hallyday in a biopic authorized by his widow Laetitia.
This is the second film project launched on the life of the French rock star, its producer announced to Le Parisien on Wednesday. Laetitia, who authorized this new film, chose the actor Raphaël Quenard to play Johnny Hallyday.
“The idea is to make the big biopic of Johnny”died in 2017. “We will start at the end and trace the thread of his extraordinary destiny”declared to the daily Hugo Sélignac, one of the most prominent French producers of the moment (“Pupille”, “I will always see your faces”, “Le grand bain”…).
The film must be directed by Cédric Jimenez (“Bac Nord”, “Novembre”) and the main role given to Raphaël Quenard, in high demand since his César for best male hopeful for “Scrapyard Dog”. It is due to be released on December 8, 2027, almost 10 years to the day after the singer’s death, adds the daily.
To play her deceased husband, Laetitia had a revelation in front of the actor: “I was bowled over by his acting, his looks, his way of occupying space, of speaking, his spontaneity, his almost animal charisma… I said to myself that if an actor could embody Johnny in the cinema, it was him.”
This is the second project announced on the life of Johnny, after that of the director Jalil Lespert (“Yves Saint-Laurent” in 2014), former companion of Laetitia Hallyday, who must direct the actor Matthias Schoenaerts in the role of the rocker. Universal Pictures had announced this biopic project for a cinema release in 2026.
