This Friday, June 21, is music festival! Many artistic and musical initiatives are offered in our villages and towns. Faithfully, the KTO programming will also be in the colors of the party!

Show, documentary, report, KTO offers you a series of programs to discover different aspects of music and its place in the Christian religion.

But first of all, what are the origins of this celebration?

It all began in France in 1976. Joel Cohen, an American musician working at the time for France Musique radio, proposed creating the Saturnales de la Musique on December 21 and June. Music groups then performed in western Paris and Toulouse. On June 10, 1981, a free concert entitled “Music and Youth Festival” brought together some 100,000 people on the Place de la République to celebrate the election of François Mitterand as head of the Republic. These two events will inspire Jack Lang, then Minister of Culture, and Maurice Fleuret, director of music and dance at the ministry, to create a new event: “Make music!” the first edition of which took place on June 21, 1982. This edition was a success; singers and musicians invade the bars and parks of the city of Paris. In the years that followed, the event enjoyed dazzling success in Europe and around the world. The “European Music Festival” charter was signed in Budapest in 1997. Since then, the Music Festival has been celebrated in more than 120 countries around the world.
