The conservatory of music and choreographic art in the city of Khénifra opened its doors on Wednesday June 19, 2024. Aiming to provide advanced academic training to its future beneficiaries, the structure bears the name of Mohamed Rouicha, emblematic figure of Amazigh music.

Indeed, the conservatory is located in the city center of Khenifra, historic city of the Zayane, in homage to this icon of the musical memory of the Atlas, who contributed to the development of the Khenifri and national cultural scene. Solfeggio, lute or violin, the institute offers a variety of training for the preparation and support of young musicians in their artistic path, while taking into account the musical and poetic specificities of the Middle Atlas.

Currently, the structure accommodates 42 students, who take their lessons in acoustic rooms to practice various musical instruments. The conservatory also has a dance hall, designed according to theater and performing arts requirements, with dressing rooms for artists. In a statement to MAP, Kamal Seghir, director and professor of this conservatory, indicates that the latter is an unprecedented cultural jewel. It is thus intended to be a new milestone on the path to strengthening the artistic scene, contributing to the development and improvement of musical practice at the provincial level.

The first of its kind in the capital of the Middle Atlas, this structure is a showcase for the promotion of intangible artistic heritage, allowing, at the same time, the emergence of new talents. It also helps encourage musical practice among younger generations, particularly residents of difficult-to-access rural areas.
