200 web creators call to vote for the New Popular Front

Antoine Daniel, Mistermv, Manon Bril… 200 content creators and internet personalities called to vote for the New Popular Front, believing that “only” this “bulletin will make it possible to defeat the extreme right”, in a column published Monday by the Médiapart Club.

“The time is no longer for neutrality,” explain the signatories, including the video game streamers Antoine Daniel and Mistermv, who respectively have 1 million and nearly 900,000 subscribers on Twitch, or the videographer and historian Manon Bril ( 700,000 subscribers on YouTube).

“We must massively vote and have people vote” in the early legislative elections, continue these internet personalities also represented by Benjamin Brillaud, the videographer behind the popularization YouTube channel Nota Bene (nearly 2.5 million subscribers) or collectives like #BalanceTonBoss and Afrogameuses, united under the banner “The popular stream”.

“A single bulletin will make it possible to defeat the extreme right”, to “respond to the ecological emergency”, to “safeguard public services”, “to improve the daily lives of workers” and “to win new rights: that of New Popular Front”, they claim, accusing the RN of “targeting minorities”.

“Mobilizing on the internet can sometimes be scary about losing audiences or sponsors” but “the only sponsors and the only subscribers that we can lose are those who tolerate extreme right-wing power,” they say.

“Our audience is like us: diverse, from all social classes, often LGBTI+, racialized, with disabilities. The scope of our collective speech obliges us. The time for silence is over,” they declare, inviting other content creators to mobilize.

The “Stream populaire” collective is planning in particular “from June 17 to 28 a series of events” for this purpose, “in particular on Twitch”, in partnership “with the SEED collective (Le Stream Emmerde l’Extrême Droite)”.

Since the RN’s big victory in the European elections on June 9, many web creators have called for mobilization on the networks, without necessarily clearly supporting a camp, while influencers are usually reluctant to get involved politically.

Squeezie, the second most followed YouTuber in France (19 million subscribers), warned on Friday against “a drastic rise of the far right” and called on “the young people who follow him” to vote in the legislative elections.
