WEEKENDS 8 p.m.

Celine Dion sick and suffering in her Las Vegas home, forced to rest and take daily medication when crises do not force her to call for help. Images of the singer, broadcast in the documentary I Am: Celine Dion (Editor’s note: “I am: Céline Dion”) available from June 25 on Prime Video, lift the veil on the illness that affects her: the so-called “stiff man”.

“I can no longer do what I want, I am a prisoner”, declares Céline Dion in this documentary, excerpts of which TF1 shows in the video to be seen at the top of this article. “These are stiffnesses that usually occur in the upper body, so in the chest, stomach, back and lower back. There are of course muscles all around the vocal cords. When they contract, it causes spasms and these muscles can no longer function normally”, explains Amanda Piquet, her doctor.

If I couldn’t walk, then I’d crawl

Celine Dion

There is no miracle treatment for the autoimmune disease from which the Canadian singer suffers. Céline Dion, exceptional guest at 8 p.m. on TF1 this Sunday, is waging a permanent battle against these symptoms which have developed little by little over the last 17 years. “It’s a constant fight. If I can’t run, well I walk, and if I couldn’t walk, then I would crawl”says the Quebecer.

His return in preparation

The singer’s testimony in this documentary was delivered without any restrictions. “We followed her everywhere, in her closet, in her bathroom… She told me: ‘you’re here, so now don’t ask me anymore and film’ says the director of this documentary, Irene Taylor. “The first day, I was there when a needle was stuck in his arm for an injection”, testifies the director. Celine Dion accepted this exposure for her three sons, so that they could understand what she endured. She also speaks for an audience to whom she has not spoken for a year and a half. “I really wasn’t ready to say anything before.”the singer further reveals.

Céline Dion, however, wants to believe in her return to the stage, and is ready to make any sacrifices to achieve it. “When a girl likes a pair of shoes, I can tell you that she arranges for it to fit her, so from 36 to 42, I take it and off we go”, affirms the singer, with the pugnacity that has always characterized her. Céline Dion carries out adaptation work in order to tame a whole new voice, which she tries to give birth to. This one is perhaps a little less ample, but she is armed with the omnipotence of her will to return to the studios.
