A weekend with fanfare
The Arras Film Festival is back. At the same time, “En Fanfare”, the film by Emmanuel Courcol shot partly in Douaisis and with the harmony of Lallaing as guest star, is screened in preview in around fifteen theaters in the region (the national release is scheduled for November 27). This flattering diary also underlines that Artois-Douaisis is a land of cinema: films have been shot there which, according to us, remain cult! Here is our selection; for this holiday, we have told you the site where to view them.
Let it go, it’s a waltz, 1971.

Life is a long quiet river (1988)
By Etienne Chatiliez. With Benoît Magimel, Hélène Vincent, Catherine Jacob, André Wilms
The story: an exchange of babies at the maternity ward, revealed years later, leads two families from very different social conditions to discover each other. The sequences were produced in the region: in the North – the story was inspired by a chronicle of news items published in newspapers in the 1950s – but also in Pas-de-Calais, in Hénin -Beaumont and Bapaume in particular.

When the sea rises, 2004
By Yolande Moreau and Gilles Porte. With Yolande Moreau, Philippe Duquesnes, Oliviers Gourmet
Between Béthune and Liévin, Yolande Moreau left indelible memories for dozens of extras. In 2003, from her show “Sale Affair”, she made a film, “When the Sea Rises”, a love story with a carrier of giants against the backdrop of a one-woman show. The former Deschiens figure found in front of her an audience of volunteers who fell under her spell. The secrets of the filming can be found here
Merry Christmas, by Christian Carion (2005)
With Guillaume Canet, Dany Boon, Diane Kruger.
Nothing like the introductory dedication as a pitch: “This film is dedicated to the memory of the German, British and French soldiers who fraternized on Christmas Eve 1914 in multiple places on the front. » Images were filmed in Barlin, in particular. For a return to the archives, click here >> Just 20 years ago, Dany Boon was in Barlin for the filming of “Merry Christmas”.

Welcome to the Ch’tis by Dany Boon (2008)

Should we still present the feature film which exceeded 20 million spectators when it was released in 2008? One of the cult scenes was filmed at the city of Electricians, in Bruay-le-Buissière. We asked for your memories of filming: here, two residents of the city share their most beautiful moments.

Originally, (2009)
by Xavier Giannoli. With François Cluzet, Emmanuelle Devos. Originally, it was a news item that occurred in Sarthe: that of a crook taking himself for a site manager resuming the construction of a section of motorway left abandoned. In 2009, when the film was previewed in Cambrésis, the filmmaker explained the reasons why he had chosen Nord-Pas-de-Calais as the setting. “This region was filmed by the people I love most, like Pialat. And the northern plains have a mythological dimension that makes me think of Sergio Leone’s films. This is the atmosphere I was looking for. Above all, there is not a slag heap in the frame: I wanted to avoid clichés. » No slag heap all right, but a piece of Lensois all the same: part of the scenes were filmed at the Lensotel.

The Life of Adèle (2013)
D’ Abdellatif Kechiche, with Léa Seydoux, Adèle Exarchopoulos, Jérémie Laheurte.
The film, the love story between two young women, received the Palme d’Or at the 66th Cannes Film Festival. It was also a small victory for the territory. In addition to Lille and Roubaix, the team also planted its camera in Pas‐de‐Calais, in Liévin, where the main character’s parents’ house is located, as well as at the Lamartine school. In total, more than 600,000 euros were spent in the region during filming, according to a Pictanovo press release released at the time.

The film describes the daily life of a bourgeois family with the migration crisis as a backdrop, and was shot partly in Calais and Sangatte by the Austrian director. For the purposes of the scenario, scenes were produced in Douai, rue de Lille for example.

15-17 For Paris, 2018
De Clint Eastwood
The film returns to the attack on the Thalys in 2015, partly filmed at Arras station. The American master achieves an interesting experiment by having the main characters played by the real heroes. But as we wrote in our review published in 2018, the director “fails to make a great film.”
