Like every year, the Monegasque sovereign honored the festival with his presence, from the opening evening. At the closing ceremony on June 18, this year’s winners will be announced, who will walk away with a Golden Nymph. This Friday, as is tradition on the opening night, a first Honorary Nymph is awarded to a personality for their entire career.

This year, it was American actor Morgan Freeman, 87, who won the honorary Crystal Nymph trophy. Morgan Freeman received an Oscar in 2005 for his role in Million Dollar Baby. Morgan Freeman was present at the festival to preview the series The Gray House which he co-produced with Kevin Costner. The gloved actor – he wears a compression glove due to his fibromyalgia – took the stage to collect his trophy.
