CINEMA – After returning the American box office, Vice-Versa 2 can he do the same here, in France? According to figures revealed this Thursday, June 20, by the animated film teams, the latest Pixar has the best start to the year 2024, all films combined.

Almost ten years after the success of the first part (which brought together 121,556 spectators on the first day of its release in France in 2015), Vice-Versa 2 recorded more than 527,500 admissions during its first day of operation in France, including 226,000 in preview.

Figures which reinforce the success across the Atlantic, where the sequel to the blockbuster Vice-versa (Inside out, in original version) raked in $155 million upon its release, according to data provided on Sunday June 16 by the specialist firm Exhibitor Relations.

It thus achieved not only the second best start for a Pixar film on the American continent, but also the best start in history for an animated film at the global box office. What’s more, it’s also the best start for a film since Barbiein the summer of 2023.

In this highly anticipated sequel to the film from Pixar and Disney studios, the heroine, Riley, discovers new emotions with puberty: Anxiety, Boredom, Embarrassment, and even Desire. The director, Kelsey Mann, wanted “new, more sophisticated emotions” to accompany Riley in his adolescence, a period he himself went through “with difficulty, like many”, as he explained to AFP.

To get there, it took four years of work, “10 different versions”400 professionals mobilized, including 150 facilitators, i.e. “the largest animation team ever assembled by Pixar in 28 films”, in turn confided producer Mark Nielsen, still to AFP. A return on which Disney was betting big.
